Cut3D is a specialized toolpath engine for CNC machining of 3D models created with a 3D CAD or graphic design product such as AutoCAD, Rhino3D, 3D Studio, etc., or scanned with a laser or touch probe. Cut3D's extremely easy-to-use interface takes you step-by-step through the process of loading a model, adjusting the size, interactively placing tabs to keep the job in place, calculating one, two or four-sided roughing and finishing toolpaths, previewing the results and finally saving the CNC code for execution on your machine.

3D models that are too big / too thick for processing due to portal height, milling cutter length or limited material thickness can be cut into individual pieces . Each pane can then be processed and the complete order can be assembled.

3D model formats
- Cut3D includes powerful import filters that work with most of the industry standard mesh file formats. 3D CAD and graphic design software packages usually include standard options for saving 3D models in at least one of the file formats that Cut3D supports. The most commonly used design software products are Rhino3D, AutoCAD, and Silo. The internet is a very useful resource for 3D models, with many websites offering 3D clip art. Many of them also offer free models that they can use to test whether they work with Cut3D.
- The 3D file types supported in Cut3D are STL, 3DS, DXF, OBJ, SBP, TXT, WRL, X, LWO and V3M

Estimated turnaround times
Cut3D automatically calculates the theoretical cutting times for each of the toolpaths with the specified feed rates. A scaling factor can be used to improve the accuracy of the estimated timings when milling 3D toolpaths. This is often necessary because the CNC system may not reach the programmed feed rates in 3D mode.

Save the toolpaths
Standard post processors are included for almost all CNC machine controls. The post processors are "open" and can easily be configured for specific file formats. The post processor supports automatic tool change and can easily be modified to store the roughing, finishing and cutting toolpaths in a single file.
